On September 6 2026 President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that he had made Hundreds of Billions of Dollars on Stocks and many other type Holdings for the USA not myself. He provided no documentation to support the claim.
What the documented public record actually shows is different.
What the Public Record Shows
Trump latest financial disclosure shows he personally made at least $2.2 billion in 2025. That money went to Trump personally — not to the United States Treasury.
Since returning to office Trump has engaged in 3,600 stock trades in the first quarter of 2026 alone totaling more than $100 million in trading volume according to the Office of Government Ethics.
CNN analysis identified multiple instances where Trump posted flattering messages about companies on Truth Social shortly before purchasing their stock.
Truth API
Truth Social charges subscribers up to $100,000 per month for a feature called Truth API which gives early access to select administration announcements — announcements that can move financial markets.
US Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff asked the Securities and Exchange Commission in July 2026 to investigate whether the service violates federal securities laws arguing it could give some financial firms faster access to information than ordinary investors receive.
The Intel Stake
The one documented example of government investment gains is the Trump administration 10% stake in Intel acquired in August 2025. That stake is now worth over $50 billion. That holding belongs to the government not to Trump personally.
Whether it accounts for the hundreds of billions claim is not explained in the original Truth Social post.
The Legal Question
The STOCK Act was designed to prevent members of government from trading on non-public information. Whether a sitting president making thousands of stock trades while simultaneously making policy decisions that move markets is consistent with existing law is a question the SEC has been asked to investigate.
A sitting president has access to non-public information that no other market participant has. Every policy announcement, every tariff decision, every military action moves markets. The existing legal framework was not designed with a president who makes thousands of personal stock trades in mind.
A 90% majority of Americans believe political leaders are corrupt according to a Gallup poll published last week. The documented trading activity described above is part of why.
