A Reuters/Ipsos poll released this week puts President Trump's approval rating at 33 percent, the lowest recorded during his current term in office.
The timing is significant. The midterm elections are five weeks away. Trump has been holding rallies across the country, most recently in Mobile, Alabama, and is promising a $5,000 "Trump Dividend" to every American adult if Republicans keep the House and Senate. He has also announced $90 checks for Medicare seniors and $500 ACA rebates, neither of which has a delivery date or confirmed legal authority.
A 33 percent approval rating means roughly two in three Americans disapprove of the job Trump is doing. For context, presidents with approval ratings below 40 percent heading into midterms historically see significant losses in Congress.
The poll comes after Trump told TIME magazine he regrets appointing Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett to the Supreme Court because they ruled against him too often. It also comes after tariffs cost the average American household an estimated $2,400 in higher prices in 2025, and after Medicare Part B premiums rose nearly 10 percent in 2026.
Congress left Washington for five weeks on Thursday. Voters go to the polls November 4.
