He called it a tool of wealthy Eastern elites at the expense of ordinary Americans. He won. He dismantled it.
No major presidential candidate since has made abolishing the central bank a centerpiece of their platform and won the presidency. Ron Paul made it a significant part of his 2008 and 2012 campaigns. He did not win the Republican nomination.

The Platform

No More Undeclared Wars: Congress has not declared war since 1942. The United States is currently engaged in active military operations against Iran that have killed American soldiers and spread across four countries. Congress has not voted. Article I Section 8 gives Congress the exclusive power to declare war.
Restore the Fourth Amendment: Flock cameras track every vehicle without a warrant. Civil asset forfeiture allows government to seize property without a criminal conviction. Johnson calls for full Fourth Amendment enforcement consistent with Kyllo v. United States.
Right to Travel: Private travel in your own vehicle for non-commercial purposes is a constitutional right not a licensed privilege. Johnson calls for ending the treatment of private travel as commercial activity subject to licensing and regulation.
Abolish the Income Tax and the IRS: Johnson calls for abolishing both and returning to a system where Americans keep what they earn.
Abolish Property Tax: You do not own your home if the government can seize it for unpaid tribute. The Fifth Amendment prohibits taking private property without just compensation.
