The family of Charlie Kirk filed a notice of claim on September 9 2026 against the State of Utah, Utah Valley University, the UVU Police Department, UVU Police Chief Jeffrey Long, and former UVU President Astrid Tuminez — the first legal step toward a wrongful death lawsuit.
Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed on September 10 2025 while speaking at an outdoor event on the UVU campus in Orem, Utah. A sniper fired from the roof of UVU Losee Building approximately 400 feet away. Prosecutors have accused Tyler Robinson of the killing.
