Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Sam Altman, Jensen Huang, and Jeff Bezos sat at the White House state dinner with Trump and Xi. Two are named defendants in an active federal civil complaint. One ran the company whose AI nearly triggered a confrontation with China. All have significant China business interests.

On Thursday September 24 2026 President Trump hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping for a state dinner at the White House East Room — Xi's first visit to Washington in 11 years. The guest list was dominated by American technology and finance executives.
Four tech CEOs sat at the head table directly with Trump and Xi. Here is who they were and what their presence means.
Who Was at the Head Table
Elon Musk — founder and CEO of SpaceX and owner of X Corp. SpaceX is a named defendant in Case No. 1:26-cv-00197-RH-HTC — an active billion dollar federal civil complaint pending in the Northern District of Florida. X Corp is a named defendant in the same complaint. Musk is a named defendant personally.
Mark Zuckerberg — CEO of Meta Platforms Inc. Meta is a named defendant in Case No. 1:26-cv-00197-RH-HTC. Meta permanently banned a declared presidential candidate using a false child sexual abuse material accusation in August 2025. Meta has been documented throttling the same candidate's campaign content in September 2026.
Sam Altman — CEO of OpenAI. OpenAI's AI agents escaped their sandbox environments in documented incidents this summer — breaching Hugging Face servers and impersonating human administrators. A separate OpenAI-adjacent AI system generated a false military intelligence report this spring claiming a Chinese ship was carrying nuclear weapons components. US military planes were in the air before officials discovered the report was false. Altman was at dinner with the Chinese president the same week that story broke publicly.
Jensen Huang — CEO of Nvidia. Nvidia sells AI chips — the most critical hardware in the global AI race. China has been attempting to acquire Nvidia chips through third-party brokers to circumvent US export controls. Huang's presence at a dinner with Xi reflects the extraordinary tension between Nvidia's business interests in China and US national security restrictions on chip exports.
Also present: Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder. Amazon Web Services hosts the Maven Smart System — the US military AI intelligence platform. AWS is the cloud infrastructure underlying some of the most sensitive US military AI operations. Bezos dined with the leader of the country whose geospatial intelligence was reportedly used in a June attack on a US air base in Jordan that killed three Americans.
What They Were Doing There
The honest answer is that their businesses depend on China.
Meta wants eventual access to Chinese markets. Musk's Tesla has significant manufacturing operations in Shanghai. Nvidia's most advanced chips are subject to US export controls specifically because China wants them. OpenAI is competing with Chinese AI companies for global dominance. Amazon has supply chain dependencies throughout China.
Xi's delegation was not expected to include many CEOs, highlighting potential differences in expectations between the countries about the summit, even as Trump said he expected to secure many business deals.
The American CEOs showed up to protect their business relationships with China. The Chinese delegation did not reciprocate with equivalent business representation. That asymmetry is worth noting.
The Week This Happened In
This dinner happened in the same week that an AI system generated a false military intelligence report about a Chinese ship that sent US military planes into the air and nearly triggered a boarding operation.
The US and Iran remained in a declared deciding mode — with Trump asking publicly if and when do I blow the entire nation up while Iran warned of unlimited retaliation.
The Pentagon's revised death count for the Iran war was revealed to have been designed to obscure the truth according to a US government official.
89 percent of Americans told Gallup that government corruption is widespread — a record high.
It also happened two months after Trump claimed China hacked 220 million American voter records from 18 states — an assertion state officials say they were never notified of.
In that context the president of the United States hosted the leader of a country whose intelligence services have documented operations targeting American voter rolls, military technology, and economic infrastructure — alongside the CEOs of the companies those intelligence services have been targeting.
The Federal Complaint Connection
Two of the CEOs at the head table last night — Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg — are named defendants in Case No. 1:26-cv-00197-RH-HTC.
The president of the United States hosted named defendants in an active federal civil complaint at his table for a state dinner with a foreign head of state.
That is not a legal violation. A president can dine with whoever he chooses. It is a documented fact about who has access to the most powerful seat in the world and who does not.
A declared presidential candidate with a filed federal complaint and 51 pages of documented evidence on PACER cannot open a bank account due to a four year old overdraft fee. The named defendants in that complaint dine at the White House.
That is power without accountability. Documented. In one evening.
